The cream or the clear?

Transdel announced the success of its phase III trial for its lead drug candidate Ketotransdel (similar to ketoprofen). With these results the company will be seeking the first ever FDA approved topical agent for acute pain (their are gels available now for chronic conditions like osteoarthritis...). I see Ketotransdel as a future moneymaker for a couple reasons:

1) If it safe enough (which looks like a yes at this time), and it goes over the counter, the numbers of people who could benefit from using this product are endless. Think about the advantage of rubbing a gel on a pulled muscle or maybe even on your forehead to handle a headache. I'm sure you can think of many other options as well.

2) Just like the other topical formulations of medications, this delivery method avoids GI problems and hepatoxicity because the product is placed directly on the treatment area and is absorbed by the skin. As you know, many NSAIDs work well but they carry the risk of the above mentioned side effects.

If Transdel can find a marketing partner, if the FDA goes through with the approval, if ketotransdel can make it over the counter (physician prescriptions could be limited at first due to cost); then you will see the real profits coming through. For a few bucks a share though, it might not be a bad idea to consider picking up a piece of Transdel and sitting on it until those three conditions come to fruition.
